In 2024, I fell in love with the rhythm of weaving. I don't know how to play a musical instrument, but I imagine pushing the pedals and sending the shuttle back and forth is like playing the piano. Slow craft is healing. I noticed that when my body was tense, I moved the beater unevenly, the selvedge of the weft was wound too tightly, and the fabric was squashed. When I paused to breathe and release the stressors of the world, I wove more fluidly and the fabric was much smoother.
At University of Oregon, I worked on a small floor loom and TC2 digital loom. I recently invested in my own large Harrisville Designs 8-shaft loom now that I have graduated, and learned to build it.
A snippet of weaving a Summer Winter pattern that I designed in Fiberworks pattern drafting software.
Building my first loom, aligning the cables and harnesses. My friend and I took a 4.5 hour road trip to Walla Walla, Washington to pick up a Harrisville Designs 8-harness loom off of Facebook Marketplace. It couldn't fit in my family's minivan without disassembly. I learned more about how looms work during my rebuild!
This is "a weave for collective liberation", experimental TC2 loom weaving (with lots of floats), dedicated to my friend, Efron and inspired by the UO Palestine Coalition and other humans working for collective liberation across the globe.
